The primary session for camping and off-roading in this area is October through March. There are no services near Buttercup so, bring everything you will need including fuel, water, and food. You can't pay for just one day, wine week is the minimum. The Buttercup camping area is near the Buttercup Ranger Station. Be cautious to not camp in deep sand and not near dune buggy trails. The major part of the Imperial Sand Dunes stretches northward from this point. Buttercup Campground, Imperial Sand Dunes is located on the southern tip of the dunes.
